Angelica Organic Farm - FARM JOBS - Season 2019-2020 Farm Hand Positions - TBA Shortly

We are a small (14 acre), diversified, certified organic and biodynamic vegetable farm located in Glenlyon (between Daylesford & Malmsbury/Kyneton). We are passionate about soil health, regenerative agriculture, agricultural policy, great food and our community. We enjoy growing produce for our expanding CSA membership, supplied within our region and Melbourne.

Angelica Organic Farm will be looking to hire:

  1. 1 full time, experienced, hard working, quick and highly capable farm crew member (must commit for entire season - season ending late August, date TBA)

  2. 1 part time, hard working, quick and highly capable farm crew member, some experience preferred (must commit for entire season - season ending late August, date TBA)

The roles start with up to 1 week paid trial, before hiring.

The successful applicants will participate in the daily farm operations including, but not limited to: transplanting of seedlings, small amount of seed direct sowing, irrigation (set up, operation, maintenance and dismantling at season end), weeding (mechanical and hand),greenhouse management (pruning/trellising, bed prep), weekly harvesting, post harvest handling (sorting, grading, cleaning, bunching, weighing etc), set up and filling for CSA share packing, some record keeping. 

Hours:

Full Time approx 37.5hours/week on av.. Work days - Monday to FridayMedium to advanced entry level position (not beginner).

Part Time - TBA but approx 22.5 hours/week over 3 days - prob Tues/Wed/Thurs - Medium entry level position i.e. some relevant practical experience required.

**We do not provide housing (or meals) at the farm. All farm crew members are responsible for securing their own housing outside of the farm (and within 30 mins drive of the farm) and must have reliable transportation to and from the farm.** 

Qualifications: Due to the very demanding physical nature of farm work, comfort with kneeling, squatting, heavy lifting, and repetitive tasks plus good energy levels are a must. Applicants will need to be able to lift 25kg and be able to work in all types of weather (sleet, heat, rain, wind, etc). Experience on a production farm is required.

*Please note: YOU must be available to begin work in early November (date TBC) & commit to staying through entire this growing season (ends last week of August 2020) THEN beyond if suitable for the subsequent season. 3-4 weeks time off to be taken during September, when farm's closed .

Holidays and non-essential work absences can currently only be taken during September which falls between growing seasons and thus when quiet/minimal work needed - you agree to this on accepting an interview &/or job offer from us. Everyone has Christmas and New Year Public Holidays off and poss other public holidays, depending on work needing to be covered at the time of those other public holidays.

Other than certain public holidays NO additional ‘time off’ will be granted during November through late August (unless under extenuating and serious circumstances)

Provisions: Wet weather gear (over-pants, jacket) and work tools provided. Own steel-capped work boots and gumboots (i.e. provided by you) required and OH&S essential.                                                                    

Mobile Phones: Use of personal mobile phones is restricted to break times only, unless an employee has an emergency situation that needs their response &/or they have sought permission to take/make calls/texts outside of break times.

NO SMOKING workplace: We have a zero-tolerance no smoking policy while anywhere on the property.                                                                                                                          

Zero Tolerance also for racism, homophobia, sexism, violence, disrespectful language and other negative behaviour in the workplace.

Wages

Hourly Horticultural Award rate $24.36/hour, Casual. Plus super and fresh produce during CSA weeks 

 YOU MUST be/have...

  • Strength and endurance

  • Realistic self awareness and be realistic about your work abilities and capacity for the demands of the work 

  • Have good communication skills. Comfortable asking questions, taking instruction, feedback and constructive criticism.

  • Responsible and very reliable. 

  • Good memory for job details.

  • Fast worker, observant, quick on the uptake, good with deadlines and time management.

  • Enjoy out door, physical labour and getting hands dirty (and virtually everything else)

  • Valid drivers license - tractor operation involved

  • Own reliable, maintained transportation.
