Don't miss out, we can only provide a set number of shares!

APPLY via FORM at BOTTOM of PAGE

PLEASE NOTE: There are a strictly limited number of CSA Share memberships available for a CSA Season, as we literally plan our crop selection, plantings and harvest volumes around our CSA community and the land size we have and therefore the number of 'shares' we are supplying (i.e. bellies we are feeding). So, get in quick or risk missing out, as we anticipate a fast uptake!

Each year the exact number of weeks of the CSA seasons may vary.

building resilient + subversive fair food culture

CSA was started in Japan in the 70s under what are called the Teikei Principles. The most basic principle of Teikei is a direct distribution system based on relationships, not mere transactions. It is also based on sharing not only the rewards of organic or agroecological farming, but also the risks.

HOW DOES YOUR PROGRAM WORK?

What's in a CSA Share?

As a member of Angelica Organic Farm's CSA, you will receive a weekly assortment of our produce harvest’s (crop’s) annual share, picked fresh at the farm within 24 hours of produce delivery/pick up.

CSA2020 offers FRIDAY Home Delivery (mainly) or Porch/Hub Delivery,

- Friday Home delivery - most Melb suburbs, Ballarat, Kyneton, Woodend/Macedon (Castlemaine and Geelong region TBC). You need a shady, protected (weather & animals) & reasonably secure/private delivery spot.

- or Friday YOU pick up at HUB Venues (approx 8am to deadline 7pm): Daylesford, North Melbourne, Fitzroy, Brunswick, Footscray and Armadale area (Armadale TBC).

It is imperative that you read and fully understand ALL the information we provide 0n these CSA pages and the Membership Agreement form we provide at Sign Up, including what produce we can grow and its seasonality, so you join fully informed & in true CSA spirit.

TWO (2) SHARE SIZE OPTIONS 2020...

OPTION 1:  STANDARD Full Share

Feeds approximately 2 to 3 adults or a family of 2 adults and 2 young children! It consists of seasonal, freshly harvested vegetables, including familiar as well as more unusual varieties. “As 2 adults who cook 5-7 nights of the week ourselves plus making other light meals during the week, we find the mix and volume of 'what's in the box' highly practical, even if we also add some other items regularly from our farmers' market colleagues or elsewhere to supplement what we do not grow”.

SINGLES, people who eat out regularly OR those on a tight budget might like to purchase a Standard Share with a friend or neighbour and ALTERNATE WEEKS taking the produce (ONLY 1 designated delivery address can be accommodated)? However, we do not recommend splitting this size share between a group of individuals UNLESS you eat together - just not practical to divie up.

Contains 11-14 items on average (sometimes more but averages 11-12!), depending on the season and availability but always an average of the weekly price and often way more $$ value.  Average value per week = $50.00 +Deliv ($8/week)

PLEASE NOTE: We do NOT comprise OR price share sizes by the kilo volume of produce in the 'box' each week. Your weekly VALUE is arrived at according to practical usage and a good volume of excellent quality food for the subscription paid. If you are after masses of 'cheap food' CSA is NOT for you. You will receive extra when we have surplus only. CSA is about FAIR FOOD, reflecting true production value, including that everyone wins, eater and farmers alike - Thank you for your respect, support and appreciation.

Each week's box contains a mix of staple items such as carrots, potatoes, some kind of onion, brassica(s) (e.g. broccoli/cauli/cabbage/kale/kohlrabi/Asian green - whatever is in season & ready), salad/leafy greens mixed with other seasonal items (e.g. cucumbers, tomatoes, zucchini, garlic according to what’s in season).  Each week may be slightly varied allowing for a good mix and full variety of what is available - BUT what IS available is all that’s on offer.  All produce in the box is grown on our farm, with occasional (rare) supplementary items. With any supplementary produce items, we will be fully transparent about which other farm it came from and it will always be certified organic or Biodynamic. If/When there is surplus of an item (e.g. cucumbers as 1) members are given or offered extra, above the $$ value of the box.

30 WEEKS - Summer/Autumn/Winter - Fridays, starting 24 JANUARY through to 14 AUGUST inclusive -

Pricing and Payment STANDARD Full Share: i) FULL 'Season' in Advance = $1500.00 in advance PLUS DELIVERY of $240.00 (i.e. $8.00 per week) for Melb/Ballarat/Kyneton/Woodend/Macedon & poss Castlemaine &/or Geelong (to Home/Office or the closest Pick Up Hub where they exist) - So, $1740.00 TOTAL.

LOCALS PACKAGING fee of $45.00 - i.e. Daylesford/Glenlyon Hub PICK UP only (no home deliv) - So, $1545.00 TOTAL - Recommend/preferred and what's really needed by us!

ii) OR if genuinely required DEPOSIT 50% ($750) minimum non-refundable deposit required by November at your Sign Up (N.B. ONLY payment secures your member Share) Balance ($750 + $240 deliv = $990.00 OR Locals $750 + $45 = $795.00) due 6 January 2020

OPTION 2:  FEED A FAMILY Larger Full Share (approx 1.5+ x the STANDARD Share size)

Feeds approximately 3-4 adult-sized eaters and up to 2 small children or 2-3 adult serious vegetarians.

This Share is generally meant for an average family with kids or medium-sized household. We do not recommend splitting this share between a group of individuals, UNLESS you eat together - just not practical to divie up. If this Share is too much we recommend the Standard Share (above).

ALSO, this larger Share is possibly a good fit for a smaller household who likes to preserve or freeze their own fresh produce or who entertains at home/feeds visitors. You’ll get all the basics and a great selection of additional items through all three seasons.

Contains 11-15 items (av. 12-13, including larger volumes of staples), depending on the season and availability but always an average of the weekly price and often way more $$ value.  Average value per week = $80.00 + Deliv ($8/week)

So, $2640.00 TOTAL- Recommend/preferred and what's really needed by us!

FYI - CSA2019 WEEKLY PRODUCE $$ VALUE BREAKDOWN COMPARISON...

We record each week, exactly what we send out in the member shares. This season (2019) we have done the exercise of calculating the TOTAL $$ VALUE (av. retail compared) received by members for both Standard and Feed-A-Family sized shares...

  1. 2019 STANDARD SHARES TOTAL - $1660.00 for 30 weeks (members paid $1500.00)

  2. 2019 FEED-A-FAMILY SHARES TOTAL - $2510.00 for 30 weeks (members paid $2400.00)

...some weeks were a little under $50.00 or $80.00 'worth' but most weeks were spot on or above, hence the overall season value and THIS is how CSA rolls, because it is occurring in 'real time' and 'real farm' - not 'cherry picked' and aggregated from farms far and wide around the state or country. Value is not only measured in $$ of course...think freshness, nutrient density, flavour, clean and regen farming practices, environmental responsibility, supporting a small and diverse family farm directly, more connection with your food and its source and so on. When/if there’s surplus of an item(s) we give members more (If wanted) and higher dollar-value items such as tomatoes and garlic are generally provided beyond that week’s $$ value during their peak season availability anyway.

But I Only Want To Join the Summer/Autumn or Autumn/Winter CSA 'Block'?

We plan the entire year's (growing season's) farm production around the CSA, to ensure we cater for the specific number of Shares we can reliably accommodate, to make sure our members receive the value and variety we’ve offered AND to make our farm viable ongoing AND to ensure provision to ourselves and our farm hands a fair living wage. Therefore, for several important practical/viability reasons, we prioritise FULL ANNUAL SHARES (i.e. 30 weeks for 2020). "Half Season Shares" (i.e. 15 sequential weeks) will NOT be offered at November SIGN UP.  At our discretion, and in the unlikely event of a few 'leftover' full shares at the last minute (i.e. 'left over' by sign up deadline), we MAY be able to offer a handful of 'half season shares' BUT do NOT aim to do so. We need to have a minimum number of full season ‘sign ups’ for the CSA season (& farm) to actually go ahead.

Weekly Produce Box Home Delivery OR Collection FRIDAYS - Summer/Autumn/Winter

From season CSA2020, we will be offering our new home delivery service via courier for Melbourne and most suburbs, Ballarat, Kyneton, Woodend/Macedon and possibly Castlemaine &/or Geelong TBC), occurring Fridays (except Easter, for which delivery is the Thursday, day before Good Friday) .

If you do not have a safe (somewhat private & also protected from weather/animals) and shady location for produce box delivery to be left at home, alternately YOU will be able to pick up your weekly share from your nearest CSA Pick Up HUB between approx 8am & 7pm Friday - Our current 7 collection hubs are: MELBOURNE: 1) Brunswick  (Stewart St) 2) Fitzroy - (Rose Street) 3) North Melbourne (Victoria St), 4)Footscray (Gordon St) 5) Armadale area (TBC)

+ WOODEND TBC (Ryan's Rd), DAYLESFORD (East Street, saving you a trip to Glenlyon UNLESS you are from Glenlyon, in which case we can rearrange farm pick up if necessary to be more convenient?) & possibly Ballarat and Castlemaine

Commit confidently!

Our CSA pricing model is highly competitive and excellent value (Compared w organic grocers and other delivery box options).

CSA's take a commitment.

We believe you can make great meals with fresh everyday ingredients (real food!) even if you’re short on time and cost conscious. You just need to keep it simple, cook clever and get creative! It helps when you are inspired by beautiful produce…

We prefer members who are happy and positive, with can-do type of personalities... our farm and its produce is meant to be a great, positive experience for you, your family, your fellow members, and for us!

We welcome constructive feedback, but please be realistic and mindful AND remember, we work our tails off in blazing sun, pouring rain, driving wind and burning frosts to bring you delicious produce!

PROVIDE A SAFE, SHADY HOME DELIVERY SPOT or PICK UP YOUR SHARE (Choose 1 or the other for the entire season)- You need to be committed to accommodating home delivery OR picking up your share (on time) each week, as well as using it. If a member will be away or otherwise unable to collect/pick up, arrangements for someone else to pick it up (&/or use it!?) need to be made. Member shares that are not picked up will not be ‘held over’, refunded or made up. If a member will be away or otherwise unable to pick up, consider donating that week's share to a friend, family member, neighbour, charity or other community member?

KEEP INFORMED and INVOLVED –  We encourage all of our members to become active participants in the CSA Program.        You need to read the CSA Newsletters emailed to members to keep updated with important news or changes and in touch with details about what's going on at the farm, how your food is growing, what was harvested for the week. The WEEKLY "What's In The Box and Farm News" newsletter contains important information about your weekly veg supply for you to plan around.

COMMUNICATE with US -  We always appreciate our customers' communication with us! Let us know: What produce item(s) 'rocked your boat'?? Which of our recipes are winners or how you made super modifications? What vegetables were new/obscure to you &/or a struggle?  Our transparency re the growing of the food, combined with the shared relationship we build between each other and the food, is what makes CSA a unique way to reconnect with food and only as rewarding as what we all contribute to it.

We will offer regular/seasonal CSA member only farm tours twice annually, so that members can experience the farm a little, get to know their farmers and see exactly where their food comes from (usually late March and late May). We typically enjoy a shared local lunch together!

STAY IN THE KNOW with us and the farm via Social Media...
To share our farming generally and keep CSA members in touch with the day to day activities on the farm, we post photos and updates on Instagram & Facebook. Follow: @angelicaorganicfarm
