ORGANICS & BIOLOGICAL FARMING

Organics Healthy soils give us healthy crops and protect the natural environment…

As biological and therefore organic farmers, it is our intent to recall the best of our ancestors’ natural food growing wisdom, add to that with sustainable modern agriculture wisdom and with respect for the land, produce high quality, nourishing produce without the use of inorganic fertilisers, pesticides or genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

For most organic growers, gardening or farming food organically is about a lot more than simply not using synthetic pesticides, weed killers and fertilisers or GMOs. At Angelica Organic Farm good soil ‘farming’ and working with nature’s natural systems is the basis of producing premium nutritious, flavoursome and non-toxic garlic, vegetables and herbs. Biological farming recognises that a healthy cycle of life for all plants and beings starts with the right balance of soil microbes (the soil food web). It can include organic and biodynamic farming and is based on proven science and common sense.

Unfortunately, under what has become so called ‘conventional farming’ over the past 70 or so years, with its increasing dependence on mechanisation and synthetic chemicals, the amount and diversity of the soil food web on most farmed and grazed soils is now insufficient to provide self-sustaining fertility for growing food and nurturing natural resources. Further more, the pollutant bi-products of CO2, heavy metals and nutrient run-off created by heavily mechanised and synthetic chemical dependant food production systems, enter the environment causing serious, in some cases irretrievable, environmental degradation and human health problems, which cost the entire community a grand sum to redress.

An imbalance of weeds, diseases and insect pests is a key indicator of poor soil life and therefore inadequate nutrient availability for strong plant and animal growth. By understanding and respecting the natural processes on our land we address the underlying causes of imbalances not the symptoms.

By not using harsh, artificial chemicals and factory farming-style practices but rather employing traditional and innovative techniques involving complimentary crop rotations, green manure crops, compost and other holistic practises, Angelica Organic Farm cultivates nitrogen rich organic matter which promotes thriving biological life beginning with soil microbes, to helpful predator bugs, bees, bird life and the diversity of plant species resulting in lovingly grown, totally natural products which contain optimal benefits for your health. In the same way, we are proud to be contributing to the regeneration and conservation of our natural resources of water, air, soil, flora and fauna for future generations to enjoy and live from.

“We believe good farming is about leaving the land better than you found it.”

Organic Certification

Angelica Organic Farm has grown all produce without synthetic chemicals or GMOs since day one. We are now proudly accredited with full organic certification (ACO Lic. No. 10966A).

Organics

Australian Certified Organic (ACO) the certification arm of Biological Farmers Of Australian (BFA) is our certifier. We chose organic certification because we are so serious about upholding the integrity of organic growing and its products and ensuring people’s right to choose what they eat.

There are for example more and more people who have no choice but to eat chemical-free food due to multiple chemical sensitivities and other modern day illnesses, who need to know absolutely that their food is unadulterated and others wish to avoid ending up with compromised health for themselves and their children from chemical body burdens.

Certification provides customers with assurance that they are purchasing truly organic products, grown using only sustainable organic agricultural methods and is also about trustworthy monitoring of how our food is handled from harvest to when it reaches you. Standards to achieve this are internationally recognised, and are guaranteed through annual audits of all certified operators by an independent third party auditor.

The initial organic certification process takes place over approximately three years, as long as there are no pre-existing chemical contamination issues to be resolved or problems that arise during (or after) certification that contravene the standards. Detailed records of all farm systems, inputs and outputs have to be submitted to the auditor each year.

"To tell you the truth, I don't see why I should be defending organic food production. It's the conventional farming industry that should be defending the use of chemical fertilisers and chemical pesticides on your food."
